Monstera Obliqua Swiss Cheese Vine
The Monstera Obliqua Swiss Cheese Vine is the perfect companion to the Monstera Monkey Mask. Where the Monkey Mask can display quite a compact formation prior to vining, the Swiss Cheese Vine can be seen shooting off its thin vines and extensively fenestrated leaves from the points where it has been planted. As this plant puts most of its efforts into those beautiful long vines it is recommended that you provide a path for your plant to grow.
When caring for your Swiss Cheese Vine select a spot of bright, indirect light. You will find that if you plant it in a position where it is not receiving enough light it will start to grow its vines towards a darker spot in the room. This is your plant reverting to its natural instincts believing that it is growing towards the forest canopy which would provide the light it is seeking if it is able to break through. Shift you plant slightly closer to the window and it should start to grow its vines either up the coco pole, or trellis you have planted it with, or spill from the pot as expected. Monstera’s are a great plant and when happy they will reward you with a flourish of new beautiful leaves. An easy way of knowing you are getting it right!

MONSTERA SWISS CHEESE VINE PLANT CARE
Temperature
The Swiss Cheese Vine needs to be kept in a warm and humid environment. Its preferred temperature is between 18-27˚C, although it will tolerate temperatures above 12 ˚C. Keep away from draughts and air conditioning.
Light
The Monstera Swiss Cheese Vine requires bright indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight will burn the leaves of your plant.
Watering
Water using room temperature water in smaller regular amounts to achieve moist, but not soggy soil. Don’t let the soil dry out. The roots do not like to be left wet so ensure that your pot and soil have good drainage. Less water will be required over the winter months.
Maintenance
The Swiss Cheese Vine will need to have its leaves cleaned to ensure its ability to photosynthesis in order to feed itself. Due to the delicate natures of the leaves a full shower every now and again to remove any dust that has accumulated is the best method for cleaning your plants leaves.
Fertilizer
During spring and summer use an all-purpose liquid plant food to promote new growth.
Toxicity
Monstera’s are toxic plants. Keep out of reach of both children and pets.
Soil
Monstera’s prefer a well-draining soil which is not too heavy. It needs to be able to retain moisture, but not hold water. Ensure your soil has a Peat component which will trap moisture, but not become waterlogged.
RE-POTTING
This can be done annually to replace the soil and increase the pot size if required. Re-potting is not recommend when you purchase your new plant as it needs to become accustomed to its new environment. To re-pot and change your plants environment may shock your new plant.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
Yellowing leaves: An issue with how much your plant is watered will cause the leaves of your Swiss Cheese Vine to yellow or if the temperature is too cool. Check the temperature of the room your plant is kept in and adjust your watering. Your plant should grow new healthier leaves if the issue is remedied.
Browning spots on leaves: This can be due to sun burn. Ensure your plant is not in the path of direct sunlight.
